From Antique Dining Tables to Venetian Glass Eggs
Our latest roundup of recently sold items ranges from solid and reliable antique dining tables for which we are famous through to the slightly more esoteric and unusual Venetian Glass Eggs and other curios that we are always keen to bring to the attention of our customers.
Our first item this week is this Antique Burr Walnut Queen Anne Style Dining Table which dates from around 1920:
This table will no doubt be in pride of place at the home of its new owner. One of our specialist fields, antique diding tables and chairs are something that you can always find a good choice of at our north London showrooms or online on our website.
This 9′ 8″ wide table, (fully extended) is oval in shape and boasts attractive inlaid decoration. It is complete with it’s original winding mechanism and handle and is supplied with three leaves which can be added or removed as required.
The cabriole legs feature carved shells and bellflower ornaments and terminate in ball and claw feet. The carved decorations have been beautifully gilded.
To finish it off and to enhance it still further, this table has been French polished to bring out the beautiful grain of the burr walnut.
Next, please take a look at this Antique Burr Walnut Pop Up Davenport Desk dating from around 1860:
Lovely to look at and compact enough to fit into even the smallest of rooms, being only 2ft wide, the choice of wood is again burr walnut, chosen, no doubt, for its attractive and interesting grain.
The desk features the original tooled and gilded leather inset as well as an elegant pair of solid walnut and hand carved cabriole legs. There is also a secret compartment that pops up when a hidden catch is operated.
IAs an added bonus, this desk is finished on all sides so that it can stand freely in the middle of a room.
There are four drawers on one side, perfectly sized for all the stationery you could possibly need, and there are dummy drawers on the other side. The main point of interest when showing it off is the secret compartment located at the rear on top, which provides three drawers and pigeonholes for pens, letters, stamps, etc.
It stands on bun feet featuring original recessed brass and porcelain castors.
Finally, we have just found a delighted new owner for these colourful vintage Venetian glass eggs, there are eight eggs of the same, size and one larger egg:
As well as being very decorative these eggs could be put to use as paperweights, they will brighten upo any desk or display shelf and are always a talking point, we hope that the new owner is delighted with them and treaures them for years to come.
