Sometimes it just isn’t possible to find exactly what you need by way of an item of antique furniture. Perhaps you need something a bit larger than usual, or a piece with an unusual design. Maybe you would like a bespoke dining table, conference table or some bespoke chairs with marquetry decoration including your family crest or coat of arms or perhaps the logo for your business or product.

The sky's the limit with bespoke furniture that is made to order from Regent Antiques - our craftsmen can carry out unique marquetry decoration and other bespoke finishes to your own design and use fabrics of your choice for upholstery, where required. If you can envisage it in your mind, then the chances are we'll be able to make it a reality for you.

Bespoke Dining Tables in Traditional Styles with Your Special Unique Styling

Imagine sitting down to a meal with your guests at a table bearing fabulous marquetry decorations including your family crest or coat of arms. Alternatively, it might be a special feature for a hotel lobby or a restaurant private dining area that you are looking for, complete with your logo or motif applied to the table or other item of furniture using traditional marquetry techniques.

Our team regularly take on such bespoke furniture commissions, just let them have an idea of what you are looking for together with any art work or designs that you might have and they will provide you with an estimate of the cost and time required to carry out the work. These bespoke furniture pieces are all handmade using, wherever possible, traditional methods, mostly by hand and making use of the very best veneers and timbers available.

Bespoke Furniture - More Than Just Bespoke Dining Tables

Although bespoke dining tables, especially large dining tables, are a major part of our bespoke furniture business, we also regularly make bespoke dining chairs, bespoke desk chairs, bespoke sideboards and bespoke desks. If you have a design in mind just contact us and discuss the options with our team who can advise on what is possible and provide you with an estimate of the cost.

Marquetry and its use in Bespoke Furniture

Because most of the furniture we offer is made from very fine materials including the very best timber and veneers, it is appropriate that we offer a remarkable standard of bespoke marquetry decoration for your item of furniture. Each small piece of wood needed for your unique bespoke decoration is carefully hand cut from beautiful wood veneers and applied by hand to the surface of the furniture item which is to be decorated.

Applying marquetry to bespoke furniture is a time consuming process that is carried out by craftsmen who are often from the second or third generation of their family to take up such a profession.

You can see our video, ‘The Magic of Marquetry’ here. Take a look and find out just how much love and devotion goes into making every single piece of bespoke furniture to leave our workshops.

Bespoke English Hand Made Leather Captains Desk Chair Gamay

Bespoke English Hand Made Leather Captains Desk Chair Gamay

This is an absolutely stunning bespoke new leather 'Captains chair' in a beautiful Old English Gamay red colour, hand-made in England with materials of the finest quality. Old English Burgundy is an aniline-finished leather that is tanned to ensure a pleasing distressed or ‘aged’ finish from new. Extra fat liquors are applied during tanning to give the leather a slightly waxy feel. These leathers are designed to allow the natural marking variations of the leather to show through to the finish coat. Pull-up leathers do not have a consistent colour density across the whole hide and are designed to change colour and sheen when pulled or stretched. They are not as colour fast as pigmented hides and are designed to allow furniture to age and relax through use and over time. Evidence of marks and scarring will be seen through the surface finish. Each hide will be unique, as will be the furniture on which it is used. The studding is achieved with close individual nails or studs -  not by using strips - and each nail is individually hammered in by hand. The seat has individual double cone hand springing, each spring is hand-sewn to the beechwood frame and the filling is canvas, fibre and felt The studding is achieved with close individual nails / studs not by using strips, and each nail is individually hammered in by hand. Made with solid mahogany turned legs the chair is solid mahogany. Handmade English furniture of this quality can last for generations if well-cared for. Available in other colours upon request. It has one 60cm  leaf which  can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion by a special winding mechanism, and it stands on elegantly carved and inlaid legs which terminate in brass cap castors. The chairs that are shown in the photographs are not included in the price but are available if required. Condition: This is a new bespoke handmade table.   The making of a marquetry masterpiece The making of a bespoke marquetry dining table involves many phases - carried out with the highest level of attention to detail - by third generation master craftsmen in our workshop in Italy. First the design of the marquetry is drawn on paper. The paper is then glued on to a sheet of plywood and the veneers are attached to the underside with pins. There can be a maximum of 16 sheets of veneer.  In this case, there are 8 for the burr walnut and 8 for the marquetry. With a fret cutter, using a very fine blade, the marquetry is cut out, using the burr walnut and various coloured veneers to compose the flowers. Today we use an electric fret cutter, although in the 18th and 19th centuries the cutters were operated by treadles. All of the cut out pieces of veneer are then placed on a large tray. They are then singed by being placed in hot sand in a red hot crucible. This singed effect gives different shades to the various veneers, depending on how deep and how long they are left in the hot sand. The various items of veneer are then inserted into the burr walnut one by one. After they are inserted, tape is placed over them to keep them in place. They are then turned over and a sheet of glued paper is placed over them all, after which the tape can be removed. The prepared solid mahogany table is then veneered with mahogany - twice on the under side, horizontally and vertically, and then once on the top side. The prepared marquetry and burr walnut sheet is then placed on top and the whole table top is placed into a hot press, which glues the sheet to the top. The backing paper can then be sanded off. The table top is then veneered 4 times to prevent the top from bowing or warping. Once the assembly is complete, the table is French polished by hand using natural products, resulting in a stunning bespoke masterpiece of marquetry.

Bespoke English Handmade Amsterdam Leather Arm Chair Buckskin

Bespoke English Handmade Amsterdam Leather Arm Chair Buckskin

This is an absolutely stunning new bespoke 'Amsterdam Armchair' in a beautiful buckskin colour, hand-made in England with materials of the finest quality. Old English buckskin is an aniline-finished leather that is tanned to ensure a pleasing distressed or ‘aged’ finish from new. Seats have individual double cone hand springing, each spring is hand sewn to the beechwood frame. The filling is canvas, fibre and felt.   The effect can be very pleasing although bear in mind that this hand-dyed leather can fade in direct sunlight. Handmade English furniture of this quality can last for generations if well-cared for. Available in other colours upon request. Bespoke orders and wholesale enquiries welcome. We are delighted to offer for sale this lovely pair of Carolean style upholstered dining chairs featuring high backs and wonderful cream linen upholstery. This elegant pair of upholstered dining chairs, handcrafted from sought after solid mahogany and beautifully upholstered in cream linen, would grace any dining table. These upholstered dining chairs have been masterfully crafted in England from solid mahogany and feature elegantly arched fully padded high backs and generously padded seats, offering both style and comfort. Finally they have been sumptuously upholstered in cream linen for a comfortable and truly opulent dining experience. The full set comprises twelve side chairs of the same design. Carolean style, also known as Restoration style, refers to the decorative arts popular in England from the restoration of the monarchy in 1660 to the late 1680s after Charles II (the word Carolus is latin for Charles). These influences are evident in the furniture of the period and epitomised by this pair of upholstered dining chairs, which feature the expertly turned and carved legs and sumptuous upholstery so typical of the Carolean style. This tasteful pair of upholstered dining chairs - or indeed the full set of 12 - will add a spectacular sense of occasion to any gathering and provide a fascinating talking point for your guests. Bespoke Monumental 11metre 35ft Dining Conference Table & 36 chairs

Bespoke Monumental 11metre 35ft Dining Conference Table & 36 chairs

This is a superb bespoke dining set comprising a monumental 35ft dining table with the matching set of thirty six chairs. The table is made from burr walnut which has a beautiful grain with exquisite marquetry decorations which include bouquets of flowers, musical instruments, vases, swirls and geometric designs. It has eight 3ft leaves which can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion by a special double wind out mechanism.  When all the leaves are removed the table is transformed into a mid sized oval dining table.  The table is raised on eight elegant hand carved reeded legs which terminate in brass cap castors. The bespoke set of thirty six burr walnut and marquetry inlaid chairs compliment the table beautifully and comprises a pair of armchairs and thirty four side chairs. They are made from solid walnut and have upholstered drop in seats which lift off so that the cane seats below can be used in warm weather.   Condition: This is a new bespoke handmade dining set.

12ft Bespoke Handmade Burr Walnut Marquetry Dining Table & 12 Chairs

This bespoke handmade large dining table measures 360 cm (approximately 12 feet) when fully extended. All of the marquetry is handmade and inset. Made from wood veneers of various shades, this large dining table has been expertly French polished by hand to emphasis out the wood grains and marquetry to best effect. The two armchairs each measure 105 high x 56 cm wide and 53 cm deep. The set of twelve burr walnut and inlaid chairs match the table beautifully. They are made from solid walnut with upholstered drop in seat pads which can be removed so that the cane seats below can be used in warmer weather, and for cleaning. Condition This large dining table and the set of chairs is brand new and therefore in pristine condition. The Making of a Marquetry Masterpiece Please take a few moments to view the video we have made about how this large dining table was made by our third generation craftsmen in Italy. We are able to build a similar table for you with your own specification marquetry decoration, at extra cost. Will it fit? This is a very large dining table so be careful to measure the space where you would like it to go. When fully extended using all three of the leaves, this large dining table has a height of 80 cm (2 feet, 7 inches) and a depth of 130 cm (4 feet, 3 inches) and a length of 360 cm (11 feet, 10 inches). When closed (the leaves are not being used) the height and depth are the same, but the length is reduced to 180 cm (5 feet, 11 inches). As you can see, even in its reduced format, this is still a large dining table. About Burr Walnut Burr walnut has been used by furniture makers for centuries due to its wonderful swirling figure which adds true glamour to the pieces it is used for. Most walnut wood displays the swirling figure when it is cut and polished, particularly when it is cut from where the trunk of the tree meets the roots. However, ‘true’ burr walnut comes from a rare growth pattern of a walnut tree where hundreds of tiny branches have started to grow. This formation is unusual and rare, so burr walnut usually refers to the more ordinary swirling figures found in more normal growth.
