In this category of our website there is a wide choice of plant stands and antique pedestals for you to picture in-situ with your favourite vase or plant proudly sitting on top of it, prominently displayed in your home or commercial space such as an office, hotel or restaurant.
The concept of a pedestal or plant stand dates back many years and, as such, we have antique pedestals and antique plant stands on offer alongside those from more recent periods. Look out in particular for examples of giltwood and marble both put to very effective use.
All of our antique plant stands and antique pedestals are carefully selected to be suitable for enabling your choice of plant or other item to be the subject of focus and attention. A plant stand or pedestal often has to bear some considerable weight so please do make sure that you select one that is suitable for the purpose that you have in mind for it.
If you are looking for a plant stand or pedestal then you are likely to find what you want in and amongst the many examples that we offer for sale on this site and in our showrooms. When you have made up your mind please request a shipping quotation and, if that is acceptable, we will ship your antique pedestal or plant stand to your location.
Although we do offer single antique plant stands and pedestals from time to time, the vast majority of these items come in pairs and we are not usually able to split them up so please do prepare for that eventuality.
Antique Pedestals for Plants, Statues and Busts
A plant stand is usually just that, a stand for a plant pot which serves a purpose and which does not necessarily need to be very ornate or elaborate in its own right. Pedestals can of course be plant stands as well but as they are often really intended for supporting much heavier items such as a statue or bust, they are often much more robust than a plant stand.
In this category on the website, or in our extensive London showrooms, you will see a very large range of both plant stands and pedestals. We try to represent all types of use to which these antique stands might be put, but you should always bear in mind the size and weight of the item that you wish to display before you make a purchase.
Antique pedestals are available in a wide range of materials but the favourites are probably wood, including mahogany and walnut, as well as ceramic and marble - the latter being both heavy and often quite expensive.
Those made from wood are often embellished with marquetry and other inlaid decoration making them, in many cases, even nicer to look at than the items which are being displayed. Not a unique situation - how many times have you heard people say that they like the frame more than they like the painting?
Corinthian columns, Doric columns and other classical styles are often seen incorporated into the design of antique pedestals, especially those made in marble. These are of course ideal for displaying that bust of Caesar that you were recently left in a will and can’t really throw out or sell just yet.
Sometimes, pedestals and plant stands are not much more than small tables and these often offer the additional benefit of having drawers for storage. These could almost be considered to be occasional tables since, when not required for a plant, statue, or bust display they could be put to many other uses.
