Calling All Vintage Telephone Collectors
Just how many old telephones there have been over the decades, unwanted and unused, outmoded by their style and materials used in their construction even though the underlying technology that makes them work remained basically unchanged for almost a century, thrown out or stored away, never to be used again.
We all know just how far telephone technology has come, most of us have a mobile or smartphone in our pocket or elsewhere on our person but there was something about a vintage telephone, with a proper dial and a big, heavy handset.
Now, as you might have guessed, they are very collectable and much sought after and we recently had the pleasure of supplying two fine examples, pictured below:
One of a pair that we have recently sold, this vintage rare GPO series 314F telephone, dates from 1953 and is made from black Perspex Bakelite by a manufacturer famous for its telephones, Plessey.
The phone has the original chrome dial with red numbers and black dialing letters, plus a removable tray for storing notes and a very stylish handset with original cord.
It has a “BELL ON – BELL OFF facility and is in excellent condition. Please not that this was an original telephone, not a replica.
The other telephone sold recently, was a very similar 328L which is, however, somewhat older, dating from 1938 and having been refurbished by the Post Office in the early 1960s.
You’re too late for these lovely vintage telephones but our buyers are always on the lookout for more interesting and collectable items. Check the “New Arrivals” section of the website regularly if you don’t want to miss out – or why not ‘phone us?
