Milo

Was a French sculptor who grew up in Spain.

Milo was born in 1939 in Paris, but the family moved to Andalusia in Spain where he spent most of his childhood. He began making sculptures at the age of 17 under the influence of his artistic family. He went on to apprentice with a number of well known sculptors in Spain and America and started producing his own work using steel and bronze.

His subjects were mainly horses, bulls and other animals. Having grown up in Spain he’d been surrounded by horses and attended many bull fights and this gave him an understanding for the innate drama of these animals. The mix he used for his steel sculptures included a special cement mixture allowing him to use the fluid nature of the steel combined with the timeless quality of stone.

Milo is known for the rough texture of his sculptures and the movement of line in both his bronze and steel sculptures, making them easily identifiable as his work.
