Uncover the Wonderful World of Antique Bronzes
At Regent Antiques, we offer a comprehensive range of antique bronzes in all shapes and sizes, right up to and including a selection of life-size bronze statues to impress and amaze those who set eyes upon them.
Our collection of antique bronzes includes bronze statues, lamps, sculptures and animals which may be displayed either indoors or outdoors.
Bronze has been around for centuries and historically has been used to make a wide variety of items from weapons to ornaments and homeware products. As a non-ferrous metal, it will not rust, however it will oxidise when exposed to the air. This tends to give it an even more attractive patinated appearance which is often sought after by enthusiasts. Bronze then is ideal for use outdoors and is the medium of choice for outdoor and public sculpture in towns and cities all over the world.
Decorative Antique Bronzes for Sale
To start off, we are pleased to present to you this fabulous antique Grand Tour bronze sculpture of a Greek charioteer. It is an elegant antique French Grand Tour gilt and dark patinated bronze group of an Ancient Greek chariot, dating from the early 19th century.
The Grand Tour was the traditional trip of Europe undertaken by mainly upper-class European young men of means. It served as an educational rite of passage. The tradition was later extended to include more of the middle class after rail and steamship travel made the journey less of a burden. The Grand Tour not only provided a liberal education but allowed those who could afford it the opportunity to buy things otherwise unavailable at home, and it thus increased participants’ prestige and standing.
This finely cast sculpture features a gilded ancient Greek charioteer racing a pair of dark patinated bronze horses, on a rectangular red marble base raised on gilt lion’s paw feet.
This gorgeous bronze is in excellent condition, and will surely add a beautiful classical element to your home.
Our second featured item is a beautiful antique French Grand Tour bronze sculpture of The Medici Lion, circa 1870 in date.
The sculpture depicts a standing male lion looking to one side with a sphere or ball under one paw, raised on a stepped rectangular bronze and marble base. All the glory of the animal comes through – the sculptor did everything to make the figure stand out in space, making the whole sculpture vivid and enjoyable.
This high-quality hot cast solid bronze was produced using the traditional “lost wax” process, otherwise known as the “cire perdue” method.
The craftsmanship and attention to detail are absolutely fantastic. This is a truly special piece that will be the centre of attention wherever it is placed.
Another remarkable item is an antique monumental Grand Tour bronze sculpture of Michelangelo’s David, circa 1880 in date.
The full-length portrait statue is of David, the Biblical hero, represented as a standing male nude. David looks tense and ready for battle after he has made the decision to fight Goliath, but before the battle has actually taken place. His brow is drawn, his neck tense, and the veins bulge out of his lowered right hand and holding his slingshot over his shoulder.
This high quality hot cast solid bronze was produced using the traditional ‘lost wax’ process. It is impressive in its dimensions — 107cm (3ft 6”) tall with a weight of over 36 kgs (79 lbs).
The craftsmanship is second to none throughout all aspects of this striking bronze which is sure to add an unparalleled touch of class to your home.
Aside from a fine selection of antique bronzes we also have a great range of beautiful vintage bronzes, including some which are life-size or even larger and which may be displayed either indoors or outdoors.
A perfect example is this truly stunning large vintage bronze Heron sculptural pond fountain, late 20th century in date. It is a beautiful garden pond fountain sculpted in bronze with a contrasting brown and green patina in the Victorian style.
The fountain features a beautifully detailed pair of sculpted herons standing on a log. The water flows out of nozzles from the beaks and one from the top of the tree trunk.
This fountain is cast from solid bronze and was made by the traditional lost wax (cire perdue) method. A lot of intricate detailing has gone into the creation of this special display piece.
Add an elegant element to your garden with this lovely fountain, which can be used as a stand-alone fountain or as a centrepiece to a pond.
