It is, of course, true, that relatively few people have a need for a Victorian style, sixteen foot wide, Marquetry Walnut Extending Dining Table.
It is also true that there are very few suppliers who can offer such a beast, from stock, complete with matching dining chairs.
It is our privilege to be able to meet the requirements of our clients who need something a little out of the ordinary. Most people don’t have dinner parties this large, and cooking for 18 people is something many of us would run away from with only the resources of a home kitchen and Delia’s latest cookbook at our disposal. But what of those who do cater for larger groups, or those who want such a table for the boardroom or perhaps a very stylish conference venue? Who can they turn to when on such a quest?
Yes, we can supply Antique and vintage dining tables of all sizes and styles, from Regency to Art Deco and most other periods and styles as well. We are not to be compared to those high-street, (or out-of-town), furniture supermarkets who churn out perfectly good functional furniture that looks like most of the other perfectly good functional furniture out there. There is a very big place out there for those suppliers and we respect both them and their customers for doing what they do.
A Regent Antiques’ customer is likely to be someone a little out of the ordinary however. Someone who appreciates the finer points of master craftsmanship when applied to fine timbers, marquetry, inlays and other aspects of inspirational furniture. By way of an example of this, we would like to show you one of our finest examples of the dining table genre – a table that can seat up to 18 people when fully extended but which can easily be reduced to a more manageable size for smaller groups simply by removing the extension leaves which each measure 80cm in width.

When fully extended this fabulous table is 500 cm in length with the extension leaves being added or removed as required to suit the occasion by a special double winding mechanism. The full dimensions, in centimetres, are as follows:
Height 79 x Width 500 x Depth 150 – fully extended
Height 79 x Width 180 x Depth 150 – when completely closed
Chairs:
Height 105 x Width 56 x Depth 53 – 2 Armchairs
Height 105 x Width 48 x Depth 46 – Side chairs
For extra stability this large table stands regally on six elegantly carved legs, each of which terminating in brass cap castors.
It would be a shame to cover such a beautiful table with a tablecloth, even if you have one large enough, due to the absolutely exquisite hand cut inlaid marquetry decorations which are cut from different veneers of various colours. To highlight the marquetry, as well as the natural grain of the wood, this table has been expertly French polished by hand.

Now a dining table without chairs is of limited use and we have thought of that so take a look at the superb set of dining chairs that is supplied with this set. There are sixteen side chairs and two armchairs and the marquetry decoration matches that of the table. The upholstered seats can be removed if required leaving a cane seat beneath- much cooler in the summer!
