Armoire
An Armoire is a type of freestanding, tall cabinet with doors to hide drawers and shelves. There is also a rail for hanging clothes.
Originating with chests designed to store armour and weapons, it developed into its present form in 17th Century France as a piece of furniture to store personal belonging and treasures. They are very large as they were designed to store any and all belongings including tapestries and rugs as well as clothing.
Today they can be used for storing personal items such as clothing but often serve as home ‘entertainment centres’ storing TVs, DVD players and computers as well as for home office storage.
