Choosing Chairs – Antique Chairs at Regent Antiques
We sometimes overlook those things that we take for granted; electric light, clean potable water, an endless choice of television channels and supermarkets and online shops that will deliver anything you need – right to your door. In fact we could all make a fairly long list of things that we take for granted and I’m willing to bet that, for many of us, our favourite chair or sofa would be one of them.
Somewhere to work, read, snooze, eat our meals, watch the TV or just sit and think; a comfortable chair plays an important part in most of our lives yet how often do we really think about it. Not often, why would we?
So, we thought it was about time that we took an opportunity to show you some of our favourite contemporary and antique chairs here at the Regent Antiques showroom – we like them all, some of them we like a lot, but they’re all for sale if you, our customers, like the look of them. Here’s the first item from our super seating showcase, an English Hand Made Leather Captains Desk Chair:
Hand Made Leather Captains Chair
If you are the boss of your own little empire – real or imagined – its a good thing to look like you’re the boss and what better to make that statement than a chair modeled after those used by captains of mighty ocean going vessels where power was absolute, and orders must be obeyed!
Now, we’re not claiming that this beautifully made leather ‘Captains chair, hand made in England and upholstered in a beautiful antique champagne leather, will turn you into Captain Aheb overnight but it will make those hours spent at your desk much more comfortable. The chair is adjustable with a swivel tilt mechanism and stands some 2 feet, 9 inches high x 2 feet, 2 inches wide.
The leather used is hand-dyed russet hide which bears all the hallmarks of natural leather including scars, stretch marks, grain and texture variation. This is top quality Scottish cow hide, skillfully hand dyed and antiqued. These materials can be finished to any colour requested, and the beautiful antique patina is achieved by the special walnut based stains that we use in the process.
The studding is carried out using individual studs, not strips and each nail is individually hammered in by hand.
The show wood on the swivel chairs is solid mahogany and the frames are made from solid beech.

This is a very comfortable, antique Victorian desk chair which was made around 1870 from solid walnut with beautiful hand carved decoration and fabulous sage green sumptuous button backed leather upholstery, embellished with brass studs. The legs are turned and tapered making it a perfect accessory to your desk or writing table.

Made using an attractive mahogany which is is beautiful in colour and embellished with striking ormolu mounts, this is a comfortable chair which is also very easy on the eye.
