This time we’re going to take a look at this fine quality canteen of cutlery comprising of 136 pieces of cutlery made by James Deakin & Sons of Sheffield, the northern city at the heart of the fine quality cutlery manufacturing business in England for many years.
This is a very large canteen of cutlery and is appropriately housed in a very fine and completely original antique cabinet fashioned from solid walnut and burr walnut with two beautifully fitted drawers and being supplied with the original lock & key as well as brass handles and fittings, all dating from around 1920.
The pattern name for this canteen of cutlery is “Dubarry” and the canteen contains everything needed for 12 place settings. This lovely pattern dates back to the early 1800s and it is said that the indented handle design for this pattern were influenced by the well-known English furniture designer and craftsman, Thomas Chippendale.
James Deakin was a very well established and highly regarded cutler and his fine cutlery was sold worldwide to prestigious locations such as embassies, luxury hotels, royal palaces and many beautiful private homes all over the world.
