Emes & Barnard
Emes & Barnard – was a silversmiths trading in London from 1808. It was formed when Edward Barnard went into partnership with Rebecca Emes as a result of her husband, John Emes death. Barnard had been the manager of John Emes’ manufacturing silver ware firm.
Edward Barnard entered his first mark in conjunction with his new partner Rebecca Emes in 1808.
The firm traded as Emes & Barnard from 1808 until 1829 when Rebecca withdrew from the partnership. Barnard took over the firm and went on to trade with his sons as Edward Barnard & Sons.
Emes & Barnard acted mainly as retailers although they did accept orders from other firms such as Rundell, Bridge & Rundell and Fisher, Braithwaite & Jones.
Their workshop produced large and ornate presentation pieces such as race cup trophies and elaborate dinner services using popular late 18th Century styles.
