Flame mahogany
Flame Mahogany is a particular cut of wood from the mahogany tree, the flame-like figure is produced by cutting from where a branch meets the trunk.
This type of mahogany is extremely expensive as there are only a small amount of major limbs on any trunk. It is highly prized and is used for very high quality furniture construction.
Thomas Sheraton, the 18th century furniture designer said that mahogany was “best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room”
