I’d rather be on horseback – a Rocking Horse that is!
At Regent Antiques we love to offer our customers the unusual, the rare and the very special things in life so we are very proud to be able to offer for sale this superb Vintage Dapple Grey Rocking Horse which dates from the early 20th Century.
This beautiful a vintage dapple grey rocking horse is on a stretcher base which and is attributed to the well known Liverpool based rocking horse maker, J Collinson and Sons.
J Collinson and Sons started business in 1836 in Liverpool and the business continued in the same family ownership, through 5 generations until December 1993 when it sadly closed. It is said that Queen Victoria visited the company in 1851 and chose a dapple grey horse to ride, after which this was the only colour made.
As you can see from the photographs, it is a charming piece which, apart from being fun to play with, can be an interesting decorative item in your house. It would, of course, make a lovely present for a very lucky child. Rocking horses of this type, regarded as toys, began to appear in the 1800’s and are still popular to this day albeit mainly mass-produced.
The rocking horse is in excellent condition and has been fully restored in our workshops. The dimensions of the rocking horse are, (in cm):
Height 99 x Width 119 x Depth 41
Or, if you prefer, in inches:
Height 3 feet, 3 inches x Width 3 feet, 11 inches x Depth 1 foot, 4 inches
Rocking horses of this fine quality and from such a well-known top quality maker do not come along very often so it would be well worth your while taking a closer look at this one – it is on sale at our London showrooms or online for £1150 and we will ship it to any UK address free of charge – other destinations quoted on request.
