Jupe Dining Table
The Jupe Dining Table was the invention of Robert Jupe in 1835 and was an expanding table. The original design enabled the frame of the table to be rotated and expanded with leaves inserted to fill in the gaps. The distinctive feature of the arrangement was that the table would keep its original shape in its larger configuration.
The original Jupe tables are very valuable and they are hard and extremely expensive to reproduce, since the underpinning workings are very complex and in the originals were entirely handmade. Each segment has to be finely balanced and tuned to ensure a perfectly even and smooth table top, something which is very time consuming to reproduce.
