Maude Mary Turner
Maude Mary Turner (1862 – 1947) was a British painter born in Chelsea in London.
Sadly, Maude’s early life and education has not been documented, so there is no information about how she became a painter. However, as an adult she produced a great deal of work and exhibited extensively between 1891 and 1908 at prestigious galleries, including two at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours , 50 paintings at the Dudley and New Dudley Galleries and 23 paintings at the Society of Women Artists.
One of her works ‘Her First Sitting’ was selected for the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy in 1903.
In 1893 she moved to Melbury Lodge in Wimborne in Dorset to live with her father who is also listed as living there. She moved back to London in 1911 and died in Fulham aged 85 in 1947.
She painted very gentile subjects such as ladies having tea, children, gardens, flowers and animals, particularly pet dogs.
