The Timeless Allure of Antique Art Deco Furniture and Objets D’art

Antique Art Deco furniture and Objets D’art have for many decades been one of our specialties here at Regent Antiques. From stunning Art Deco dining sets to magnificent antique cocktail shakers, we have it all for enthusiasts of this unforgettable period.
The Art Deco style of course flourished in Europe and the United States in the 1920s and 1930s, and influenced everything from architecture to cars to furniture, and just about everything else in between, such as radios, cocktail shakers, and even vacuum cleaners.
The Art Deco movement traces its origins to the bold geometric forms of the Vienna Secession and Cubism. It was from the beginning influenced by the bright colors of Fauvism and the Ballets Russes, and the exoticized styles of art from the Far East, Persia, ancient Egypt, and even Mayan civilization.
At its height, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and an almost unquestioning faith in social and technological progress. The movement featured many rare and expensive materials like ebony and ivory, along with exquisite craftsmanship. It also introduced new materials such as chrome plating, stainless steel, and plastic. In New York, the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, and other buildings from the 1920s and 1930s represent timeless monuments to the style.

One of the highlights of our collection is an exceptionally rare antique Art Deco burr walnut dining table, complemented by a matching set of eight cloud-backed chairs, circa 1920. Attributed to the world-renowned cabinet makers Harry & Lou Epstein, this suite epitomizes sophistication.

The rectangular-shaped table has a stunning burr walnut figured top, with rounded corners and stand, and sits on a decorative U-shaped base. The set of eight cloud-backed chairs, comprising two armchairs and six side chairs, all feature curved backs that show the stunning grain of the burr walnut beautifully. They have all been reupholstered in a sumptuous cream leather with cream leather piping.

For those who love entertaining in style, this antique Art Deco Drakes silver plated beef carving trolley, circa 1930, is an absolute showstopper.

Crafted by Drakes of Brewer Street, London, this piece is fully restored and ready to impress.

For those that insist on serving their roast beef with style, this stunning trolley is just the ticket!
It features a vented silver-plated retractable revolving dome that opens to a detachable well and water tank over a spirit burner. The water tank has two recesses for containers for gravy or vegetables, as well as a beautiful aluminium carving board.
The sides are fitted with handles and a detachable plate holder, set upon a beautiful oval mahogany cabriole leg base.
The center shelf is fitted with an oval silver-plated utensil tray mounted on four rubberized wheels that feature original castors. This truly superb piece was crafted by perhaps London’s finest silversmith of the time, Drakes Silversmiths of Brewer Street, London W1, and is a Drakes model Min, No. 1908, one of the most desirable models that they made, with the revolving dome that makes it very easy to use.
No Art Deco collection is complete without a nod to the era’s love of cocktails. This beautiful antique silver plated cocktail shaker set by Herbert Jenkins, circa 1920, is a masterpiece of design and functionality.

The set includes a cocktail shaker, funnel, spoon, corkscrew, and bottle opener, all arranged on a fine walnut base. Accompanied by a booklet titled “The Cocktail Key”, this set is a perfect blend of style and utility, ideal for any home bar. Its decorative walnut-fitted stand elevates it further, making it a conversation piece as much as a practical accessory.
