Thomas Farren

Thomas Farren was a London based silversmith operating between 1707 and 1742.

His apprenticeship started in 1695 with John Denny and he got his freedom in 1707 and registered his first mark that same year as a largeworker in ‘Sweeting Lane’. He went on to register further marks in 1720 and 1739.

His name also appears to have been spelt Farrar and Farrer, but his apprenticeship and mark entries are as Farren.

He was appointed to Livery with the Goldsmiths’ Company in 1721, was appointed to their Court in 1731. He was Subordinate Goldsmith to the King from 1723 to 1742.

It appears he died in 1743 as that’s the year his wife, Ann Farren entered her mark.
