This is a magnificent and rare, Kaymet silver plated serving trolley with revolving dome, dating from the mid 20th Century.
 
​It is one of the most desirable models that they made, with the revolving dome which makes it very easy to use.

This stunning trolley is suitable for serving cooked meats such as roast
beef, lamb and turkey.

It features a vented silver plated locking retractable revolving dome which opens to a detachable well and water tank over a pair of  spirit burners.

The water tank has two recesses for containers for gravy or vegetables, as well as a wooden carving board. It has a vented screw knob for filling the tank with water and for  steam to escape.

The sides are fitted with silver plated handles, a detachable plate holder, and a rectangular wooden utensil tray.
 
 It is set upon a turned leg base with two shelves and stands on four rubberised castors.
 
This superb piece was crafted by one of the finest silversmith of the time.

Kaymet
 
Kaymet was established in 1947.
In the 1940s Sydney Schreiber had a small metalworking business which was helping the war effort by manufacturing boxes for radar equipment.
 
After the war he needed to find a different use for his machinery. He changed the company name to Kaymet in 1947 and began making trolleys and trays for the catering business and he exhibited these at the Festival of Britain in 1951. One of their premium products was the Kaymet Roast Beef trolley which was purchased by the leading hotels at that time.
 
In the 1950s  the company went from strength to strength, moved to a larger factory and started supplying the Royal Household.
 
The company still exists today and their merchandise is sold by Harrods, they exhibited at this years London Design Festival.
