A fine vintage walnut terrestrial sixteen inch library globe on stand in 17th Century style, by Donati, Milano, Italy,  Circa 1960 in date.

The stunning globe is in 17th Century style, is written entirely in Latin and is raised on a highly decorative walnut  stand. 

It features this inscription:



	Globum hunc teraqueum Italorian batavorum que cosmogr aphorum saecnli XVII terraru orbibus similem ortelii description ibusque typisque.

	Which translates to:`



	 



	This globe is a globe of the Italian and Dutch cosmographers of the 17th century, similar to the globes of the Ortelius, described in writing and printed.

									Giovanni Battista Donati (born Dec. 16, 1826,Pisa [Italy]—died Sept. 20, 1873, Florence) was an Italian astronomer who, on Aug. 5, 1864, was first to observe the spectrumof a comet. This observation indicated correctly that comet tails contain luminous gas and do not shine merely by reflected sunlight.



Comet Donati, or Donati's Comet  is a long-period comet named after the Italian astronomer Giovanni Battista Donati who first observed it on June 2, 1858. After the Great Comet of 1811, it was the most brilliant comet that appeared in the 19th century. It was also the first comet to be photographed.
