This is a fantastic bespoke handmade Victorian Revival marquetry dining set, comprising a gorgeous burr walnut and marquetry dining room table with the matching set of eighteen chairs. This stunning set would also be appropriate for a conference room, whatever its function it will make a profound impact on your guests and will receive the maximum amount of attention wherever it is placed. The table is made from burr walnut which has a really beautiful grain and to highlight the grain it has been French polished by hand. French polish is an alcohol and shellac polish for wood, it takes a lot of patience and hard work, but it is one of the most beautiful finishes available, producing an exceptionally high gloss. It has four leaves which can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion by a special double winding mechanism. When completely wound in, the table is transformed into a circular table six feet in diameter.  There are six elegantly carved legs for stability and they terminate in brass cup castors. The table top has a band of exquisite floral marquetry and this regal decoration includes bouquets of beautiful flowers. The matching set of eighteen  chairs comprises sixeen side chairs and a pair of armchairs. The chairs are made of solid walnut, have been beautifully French polished and upholstered, and the exquiste marquetry decoration is hand cut to match the table. The drop in seats can be removed in hot weather so that the cane seats below can be utilised.   Condition: This is a new bespoke dining set.

There is no mistaking the style and sophisticated design of this exquisite rare antique Victorian pollard oak wind out extending dining table, circa 1860 in date. This stunning dining table will stand out in your dining or conference room and will definitely become a key piece in your furnishing collection. The styles that developed throughout the early 19th Century were an extension of the current political situations but also in accordance with the needs of the rising middle class during the industrial revolution.  This amazing table has seven leaf extensions and when they are all added is 18ft/534cm long and can comfortably seat twenty. It has been hand-crafted from solid oak and the d-ended rectangular top is in striking pollard oak which is seen in the intricate burr on the table top. The seven leaves can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion by a special winding mechanism, labelled Joseph Fitter, Patentee, Britannia Works, 210 Cheapside, Birmingham. The leaves can be easily stored away when not required. The table is raised on five elegant carved, turned and fluted legs that terminate in their original brass caps and porcelain castors.   Whatever the function of this gorgeous table, it will make a profound impression on your dinner guests or clients and will receive the maximum amount of attention wherever it is placed. This is a  fabulous vintage Regency Revival dining table, datimg from the second half of the 20th Century. The beautiful 4ft diameter circular  dining table becomes oval when the leaf is added, iit s made of flame mahogany with one leaf, the leaf can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion. It  is raised on a quadruple gun barrel base that terminates in brass cap castors. The table can seat six people in comfort. This dining  table was purchased at great expense in the 1990s from Harrods, in Knightsbridge, London. This is a wonderful bespoke large handmade Louis Revival dining suite comprising a 5 meter dining table with 16 chairs. The table, crafted in burr walnut  features exceptional quality marquetry with pewter, lapis lazuli and agate. Seating sixteen people in royal comfort, it is an amazing piece of luxury furniture which will add splendour to any room. Also appropriate for a conference room or any commercial space such as a feature piece in a hotel dining room or lobby, it is sure to be a talking point. Due to its beautifully figured grain, burr walnut has been used for centuries by fine furniture makers. This large dining table has been further embellished with superb inlaid floral marquetry with burr walnut inlaid in pewter and various coloured veneers comprising cherry, pear, amboyna, burr walnut, magnolia, and tulipwood  with inserts of lapis lazuli. To highlight the natural grain of the wood and the excellent artistry of the marquetry, we have French polished this large dining table by hand. The skirt of the table is decorated with ormolu mounts inset with semi precious stones, such as agate, cornelian, malachite, etc,. This wonderful large dining table is raised on two burr walnut ebonised and inlaid pedestals that are raised on  hand carved  lion's paw feet. Being a bespoke handmade table we can make it to your specifications and size. The matching set of 16 chairs comprises fourteen side chairs and a pair of armchairs. The chairs are made of solid walnut, have been beautifully French polished and upholstered, and the exquiste marquetry decoration is hand cut to match the table. The drop in seats can be removed in hot weather so that the cane seats below can be utilised. This is  a fabulous Vintage Regency Revival dining table by the master craftsman, William Tillman, Circa 1975 in date. The table is made of stunning solid mahogany and is raised on twin "gun barrel" turned columns on quadruple swept sabre leg bases which are fitted with brass  toes and castors. It has a leaf which can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion. This makes it a versatile dining table which can comfortably seat up to eight people. The underside bears labels for William Tillman. This dining set was purchased at great expense from the master cabinet maker William Tillman,  from Harrods in the 1980s.   Condition: In really excellent condition having been beautifully cleaned, polished and waxed in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation.

A stunning antique William IV  breakfast table / loo table, in the manner of Gillows, circa 1830 in date. The lovely figured flame mahogany circular top that sits on a mahogany hand turned column with hand carved decoration raised on  quadruple swept sabre legs that terminate in brass lion's paw castors and can seat eight people in comfort.   This is a tilt-top table, table, the top of which is hinged to the central pedestal with bolts and clips so that it can be turned from a horizontal to a vertical position and, thereby, when not in use, take up a lot less space. This is an fine and rare antique English mid Victorian, burr walnut, tulip wood banded, ebonised and fruitwood marquetry, centre table, in the manner of Edward Holmes Baldock and circa 1860 in date. The shaped segmentally veneered circular top is beautifully marquetry inlaid with assorted flowers within shaped cartouches and features a beautiful scrolled foliate carved edge. It sits on a cabochon and acanthus wrapped baluster column with  three cabochon embedded, foliate scrolled and rocaille carved, scrolled outswept legs, with shell clasped feet and recessed castors.     It is extremely versatile and can be placed in your hallway, living room, dining room, or reception.       Condition:   In excellent condition having been beautifully cleaned, polished and waxed in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation.

This is a fantastic bespoke handmade burr walnut marquetry dining table that can seat eight people in great comfort. It is made from burr walnut which  has a beautiful grain and the hand cut floral marquetry decoration compliments it beautifully.  The  exquisite hand cut inlaid floral marquetry decorations of bouquets of flowers, vases and garlands  are cut from different veneers  which are of various colours. To highlight the marquetry, as well as the natural grain of the wood, this table has been expertly  French polished by hand. It has one 60cm  leaf which  can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion by a special winding mechanism, and it stands on elegantly carved and inlaid legs which terminate in brass cap castors. This stunning table will make a profound impression on your dinner guests  and will receive the maximum amount of attention wherever it is placed. The chairs that are shown in the photographs are not included in the price but are available if required. Condition: This is a new bespoke handmade table.   The making of a marquetry masterpiece The making of a bespoke marquetry dining table involves many phases - carried out with the highest level of attention to detail - by third generation master craftsmen in our workshop in Italy. First the design of the marquetry is drawn on paper. The paper is then glued on to a sheet of plywood and the veneers are attached to the underside with pins. There can be a maximum of 16 sheets of veneer.  In this case, there are 8 for the burr walnut and 8 for the marquetry. With a fret cutter, using a very fine blade, the marquetry is cut out, using the burr walnut and various coloured veneers to compose the flowers. Today we use an electric fret cutter, although in the 18th and 19th centuries the cutters were operated by treadles. All of the cut out pieces of veneer are then placed on a large tray. They are then singed by being placed in hot sand in a red hot crucible. This singed effect gives different shades to the various veneers, depending on how deep and how long they are left in the hot sand. The various items of veneer are then inserted into the burr walnut one by one. After they are inserted, tape is placed over them to keep them in place. They are then turned over and a sheet of glued paper is placed over them all, after which the tape can be removed. The prepared solid mahogany table is then veneered with mahogany - twice on the under side, horizontally and vertically, and then once on the top side. The prepared marquetry and burr walnut sheet is then placed on top and the whole table top is placed into a hot press, which glues the sheet to the top. The backing paper can then be sanded off. The table top is then veneered 4 times to prevent the top from bowing or warping. Once the assembly is complete, the table is French polished by hand using natural products, resulting in a stunning bespoke masterpiece of marquetry.

When completely wound in and the leaves are all removed the table is transformed into a 150cm ( 5Ft ) diameter dining table.  The table is raised on six elegantly carved legs that give the table its superb stability, and they terminate in brass cap castors. The table features exquisite hand cut marquetry decoration and these regal decorations include bouquets of flowers, vases, swirls and geometric designs. A beautiful Regency Revival dining table dating from the mid 20th century. The table is of fabulous quality, is in excellent condition and is also highly desirable.  A large round table is perfect for dinner parties as all the guests can talk to each other easily. The botanical name for the mahogany this table is made of is Swietenia Macrophylla and this type of mahogany is not subject to CITES regulation. The monumental circular table top has been crafted from wonderful flame mahogany in a sunburst pattern and has a crossbanded border with an inlaid line separating it. The fabulous centre base is reminiscent of George Bullock’s work and the table top stands on a circular ring base with six beautifully carved reeded legs fitted with decorative brass castors. This fascinating table represents all the very best elements of English furniture making. This bespoke handmade large dining table measures 360 cm (approximately 12 feet) when fully extended. Crafted in the style of a victorian dining table, it features the most superb marquetry and can comfortably accommodate up to twelve people making it suitable not only for dining but equally for use in a boardroom or conference/meeting room. Crafted in top quality burr walnut, which is known to be a beautifully figured timber very popular with furniture makers across the ages, this large dining table also features a plethora of intricate inlaid marquetry designs depicting swags, urns and ribbons. All of the marquetry is handmade and inset. Made from wood veneers of various shades, this large dining table has been expertly French polished by hand to emphasis out the wood grains and marquetry to best effect. The table features a special winding mechanism which is used to enable the fitting of up to three extension leaves of 60 cm (2 feet) each. These can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion. This lovely large dining table has four wonderfully carved legs that also feature marquetry and that terminate in brass cap castors. A set of 12 matching chairs, as shown in the photographs, is supplied with this table. There are ten dining chairs, each measuring 105 cm high x 48 cm wide x 46 cm deep. The two armchairs each measure 105 high x 56 cm wide and 53 cm deep. The set of twelve burr walnut and inlaid chairs match the table beautifully. They are made from solid walnut with upholstered drop in seat pads which can be removed so that the cane seats below can be used in warmer weather, and for cleaning. Condition This large dining table and the set of chairs is brand new and therefore in pristine condition. This is a very large dining table so be careful to measure the space where you would like it to go. When fully extended using all three of the leaves, this large dining table has a height of 80 cm (2 feet, 7 inches) and a depth of 130 cm (4 feet, 3 inches) and a length of 360 cm (11 feet, 10 inches). When closed (the leaves are not being used) the height and depth are the same, but the length is reduced to 180 cm (5 feet, 11 inches). As you can see, even in its reduced format, this is still a large dining table. About Burr Walnut Burr walnut has been used by furniture makers for centuries due to its wonderful swirling figure which adds true glamour to the pieces it is used for. Most walnut wood displays the swirling figure when it is cut and polished, particularly when it is cut from where the trunk of the tree meets the roots. However, ‘true’ burr walnut comes from a rare growth pattern of a walnut tree where hundreds of tiny branches have started to grow. This formation is unusual and rare, so burr walnut usually refers to the more ordinary swirling figures found in more normal growth. The oval shaped table is made from solid mahogany  and has four leaves which can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion by a special winding mechanism. This is a large and substantial burr walnut bespoke dining table complete with the most exquisite inlaid marquetry decoration. The marquetry decorations of birds, garlands and vases are hand cut from different veneers of various colours. To highlight the marquetry as well as the natural grain of the burr walnut, this set has been French polished by hand. This table is supplied with two additional leaves. These leaves can be added or removed as required in order to alter the overall length of the table, as the occasion demands. This is accomplished with a special winding mechanism that is easy to operate and makes reconfiguring the table quick and easy. This is a beautiful bespoke contemporary flame mahogany Regency style 'Jupe' dining table which can seat eight people in great comfort and can accomodate ten when required.  We make this to order so we can make it to your bespoke size, finishes and specifications. The flame mahogany veneers on the top have been arranged so as to give a sunburst effect and it is finished off by the elegant crossbanding on the outside edge. The table is very solid as there is circular base with four columns which give the table its superb stability, raised on four splayed legs terminating in brass castors.   There are slides that pull out from the sides of the table and you fit the leaves on them by placing them on the slides and securing them with brass clips, which are located on the underside of the leaves.     This fascinating table illustrates all the very best elements of English cabinet-making combined with the remarkable burst of inventiveness of the Industrial Revolution. It was not until John Johnstone and Robert Jupe patented their ingenious design in March 1835 for an expanding round table,that round dining tables, which had suffered from the problem of not offering flexibility of seating, could compete with the established rectangular extending dining tables.   There is no mistaking the fine craftsmanship of this handsome table, which is certain to become a treasured addition to your furniture collection, and a talking point with guests at meal times.   The matching set of  chairs shown in the photographs are available for sale if required or please see our website for other options.   Condition: In excellent condition, please see photos for confirmation of condition.

This Pembroke antique dining table is unmistakable in sophistication and style dating from the Regency period and attributed to Gillows, the famous furniture makers mentioned by the likes of Jane Austen and Thackeray in their works. This antique dining table has been hand-crafted from solid mahogany which was the wood of choice for fine furniture makers due to its durability and also its beautiful grain which provides a lovely colour and patina. Above an end frieze drawer, the table has twin rounded flaps creating a rectangular top. The table top is crossbanded around the edge which provides stylish and subtle decoration. This antique dining table is raised on four fluted uprights on a quadripartite base which features ornate brass caps and castors. It was originally purchased from Messrs Christies Auctioneers in the Mere Hall auction on 23rd May 1994 as lot 56. Condition: As seen from the photos, this antique Regency dining table is in excellent condition. Origin of ‘Pembroke’ Tables The name ‘Pembroke Table’ is highly debated, but it’s believed to be named after Mary Herbert, the Countess of Pembroke (1561-1621) who was the first person to order a folding flap table design. They were first introduced as a type of table in the 18th century and remained popular throughout the 19th century due to their flexibility. They are characterised by having an oval or rectangular top with folding or drop leaves on each side. Most examples have four legs which are sometimes connected by stretchers and also have one or more drawers in the frieze. This design means they can be easily stored and moved about and opened for dining, serving tea or writing. Gillows Gillows & Co, based in Lancaster with a later shop in London, were furniture makers whose name became a byword for quality. The firm was started in about 1730 by Robert Gillow who was joined in business by his son Richard Gillow in 1754. They are noted for their use of mahogany wood, which they were able to import directly from the Americas through owning a twelfth share in the trading ship Bridget. The success of the firm was partly based on this fact. They set up a London branch in 1760 and a London shop in 1770 and went on to win commissions to furnish and decorate public buildings across the world as well as for British aristocratic houses such as Tatton Hall. Pieces from Gillows can now be seen in museums in London, Leeds, Adelaide, Melbourne and Auckland as well as in their own Gillows Museum in Lancaster. This table would be equally at home in a corporate or commercial location, e.g. in a company boardroom or in a conference room. With all the extension leaves in place it would easily accommodate up to 18 people. This handmade large marquetry dining table is a very substantial piece of furniture suitable for a variety of uses. It is made in the Victorian style and it features an array of superb marquetry decoration painstakingly made in our own facility in Italy by third generation artisans. It is made from burr walnut which has has been used by fine furniture craftsmen for hundreds of years due to its lovely figured grain. This large dining table incorporates exquisite inlaid marquetry decoration featuring a variety of flowers together with urns, vases and lots of ribbons. Made from a variety of wood veneers of various colours which are shown to their best effect by the French polishing process that has been carried out on this large dining table, by hand, in order to show off the glorious wood grains to the best effect. A table for many purposes and of variable size This table is fitted with a double wind out mechanism which is used to alter the overall length in order to accommodate the four expansion leaves. Bespoke Monumental 11metre 35ft walnut marquetry dining conference table

There is no mistaking the classic and sophisticated design of this gorgeous bespoke burr walnut and marquetry dining table which can seat thirty six people in comfort.  The table is made from burr walnut which has a beautiful grain with exquisite marquetry decorations which include bouquets of flowers, musical instruments, vases, swirls and geometric designs. It has eight 3ft leaves which can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion by a special double wind out mechanism.  When all the leaves are removed the table is transformed into a mid sized oval dining table.  The table is raised on eight elegant hand carved reeded legs which terminate in brass cap castors. The 36 chairs are not included in the price but can be purchased if required. THIS IS A BESPOKE ITEM AND CAN BE MADE TO YOUR SPECIFICATIONS IF REQUIRED.   Condition: This is a new bespoke handmade table.   The making of a marquetry masterpiece The making of a bespoke marquetry dining table involves many phases - carried out with the highest level of attention to detail - by third generation master craftsmen in our workshop in Italy. First the design of the marquetry is drawn on paper. The paper is then glued on to a sheet of plywood and the veneers are attached to the underside with pins. There can be a maximum of 16 sheets of veneer.  In this case, there are 8 for the burr walnut and 8 for the marquetry. With a fret cutter, using a very fine blade, the marquetry is cut out, using the burr walnut and various coloured veneers to compose the flowers. Today we use an electric fret cutter, although in the 18th and 19th centuries the cutters were operated by treadles. All of the cut out pieces of veneer are then placed on a large tray. They are then singed by being placed in hot sand in a red hot crucible. This singed effect gives different shades to the various veneers, depending on how deep and how long they are left in the hot sand. The various items of veneer are then inserted into the burr walnut one by one. After they are inserted, tape is placed over them to keep them in place. They are then turned over and a sheet of glued paper is placed over them all, after which the tape can be removed. The prepared solid mahogany table is then veneered with mahogany - twice on the under side, horizontally and vertically, and then once on the top side. The prepared marquetry and burr walnut sheet is then placed on top and the whole table top is placed into a hot press, which glues the sheet to the top. The backing paper can then be sanded off. The table top is then veneered 4 times to prevent the top from bowing or warping. Once the assembly is complete, the table is French polished by hand using natural products, resulting in a stunning bespoke masterpiece of marquetry.

This lovely large oval bespoke dining table features gorgeous hand cut marquetry comprising urns, vases ribbons and garlands and French burr walnut. This table has been French polished to the highest gloss bringing out the fine grains of the burr walnut and inlaid marquetry pieces. When fully extended this large oval dining table can comfortably seat ten people. The table can be extended or reduced by the addition or removal of two leaves using the special winding mechanism incorporated into the table. When the two leaves are removed the table is transformed into a six seat oval dining table. This wonderful large oval dining table is raised on four beautifully-carved legs that terminate in brass castors. The matching chairs featured in the photographs are also available by separate purchase.
