Silver plate antiques are one of our largest categories here at Regent Antiques, as you will see when you browse through the many items we are offering for sale. We have an enormous range of antique silver plated antiques such as Victorian candelabras, trays, and table centrepieces, as well as Art Deco style items such as cocktail shakers, ice buckets, and so on.

Individual items of cutlery and tableware as well as complete canteens of silver plated cutlery are often show in our inventory and are always very popular.

Antique Victorian Novelty Shell Shaped Spoon Warmer 1868 19th C

This is an exceptional and rare antique English silver plated shell shaped spoon warmer,  bearing Victorian Diamond Registration Marks for 24th November 1868. At a time when the kitchens were generally set far from dining rooms, it was of great importance that food be kept warm while being brought to the rarely heated dining rooms. Apart from the large variety of dishes that had hot water compartments so the enchanting spoon warmers were invented. Filled also with hot water in the kitchen, they were brought to the table along with the serving spoon(s) which were stored in them until being used and so kept warm. A Victorian invention, of course, considered one of the essential “fancies” to every well-run household, the spoon warmer was very popular. One of a variety of articles created for the demanding and expanding middle class. Silver was seen as a measure of social status and the status conscious were eager to display their new found wealth. There could never be too many objects, you know, as dining rooms were meant to impress. So many glistening objects piled up on sideboards and dining table.   Condition: In excellent condition with clear registration marks and no dings, dents or signs of repair. This is a highly decorative Antique Victorian silver plated folding biscuit box, the base bearing the makers' mark of the renowned silversmiths Fenton Brothers of Sheffield, England, circa 1890 in date and bearing the Staniforth's Patent mark as well as the registration number 3549. A very good quality late Victorian silver plated wine or Champagne pourer by   Mappin & Webb, circa 1880 in date. It features an extendable handle and butterfly clip locking mechanism. The tube handle leads down to a circular gallery. This is an intricate and exquisitely made antique pair of English Victorian parcel gilt silver plated and cut glass centrepieces by the renowned silversmiths Elkington & Co., dated 1883.   Each of these stunning centrepieces has a wonderful central round cut glass dish which is supported by a magnificently chased seated cherub holding a torch decorated with two lovely bacchanalia masks, grapes and leaves against a gilt background. It is highly decorative and at the same time very functional, making it ideal for displaying fruit.   The base is further embellished with superb matching chased vines, grapes and flowers which are set against a fantastic gilt background. It stands on four fabulous chased feet, two of which feature outstanding chased fruits and the other two feature charming gilt  oval cartouches.  The underside of each centrepiece bears the makers' mark and the stamp of Elkington and Co. dating them to 1883, and the inventory number 16310.   A lot of intricate detailing has gone into the creation of this beautiful pair, they are extremely well designed and attractive items that can only grow in value. This is a magnificent antique English Victorian oval silver-plated twin handled tray by the highly sought after silversmiths Mappin & Webb, Sheffield, circa 1880 in date.   This splendid tray features beautifully engraved and embossed foliate and fruit decoration and the border is embellished by magnificent beaded and pierced decoration.   There is an elegant cartouche to the centre which is surrounded by two stunning engraved cornucopia and is inscribed as follow:   "Presented to Mr and Mrs George Ross Williamson Ross of Pitcalnie, on the occasion of their marriage by the Pitcalnie Tenantry 5 Oct. 1897".   It stands on four charming ball feet.   The underside of the tray bears the makers' stamp, Mappin & Webb's Princes Plate, London & Sheffield, and the registration number W8306.   This magnificent tray is one of the finest examples of its type you could hope to acquire. The circular saucer-shaped glass bowl is superbly etched with fruiting vines within leaf-shaped reserves and has a deep star cut base. The pedestal is centred by a spherical knop which is chased and engraved with a band of flowerheads, the base is cast with a downswept band of acanthus leaves above outswept trefoil-capped scroll feet cast with anthemions, lozenge and dogtooth bands.
