This superb pair of French Neo Classical Grand Tour bronze urns are most elaborate and finely detailed, Circa 1870 in date.
They have a flared neck with foliate casting and a beaded collar. The bulbous bodies have a graduated reeded design at the top from which a pair of foliate scrolled handles connect to the rim. They are superbly decorated with neoclassical relief decoration of figures performing music and literature.
They are raised on a pedestal base with a square plinth.
This high quality hot cast solid bronze was produced using the traditional "lost wax" process, otherwise known as the "cire perdue" method.
